A video is being widely circulating on social media claiming it as the visuals of artificial apple production in China. This video shows a few workers in a manufacturing company adding red colour to the yellowish items that look like apples. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Visuals of artificial apples manufacturing process in China.
Fact: The video shared in the post was first published by a Tik Tok user named ‘@cacao_ing’. This video shows the manufacturing process of chocolate apple candies in China. The Chinese give these candies as Christmas or Valentine’s Day gifts for their loved ones. These chocolate apple candies are available on all Chinese e-commerce websites. The apples in the video are not the real ones. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On reverse image search of the screenshots in the video, an extended version of this video was found posted on a YouTube channel named ‘Cool Booms’. In the extended version of the video, we could see the visuals of these red coloured apple-shaped items packed in a gift box with ‘Merry Christmas’ written over it. This YouTube channel credited the video to a Tik Tok user named ‘@cacao_ing’.
As the ‘Tik Tok’ application is banned in India, we used the ‘Tor’ VPN browser and managed to find the original video on the ‘@cacao_ing’ Tik Tok handle. This user had shared this video on 03 December 2021 with a description, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas – Merry Christmas”.
When we searched for more details of this video, a similar photo of a red apple-shaped item packed in a Christmas gift box was found on the Chinese e-commerce website ‘Taobao’. This website described the item as ‘Creative hollow apple chocolate candy for boyfriend and girlfriend’. The Chinese give these candies as Christmas or Valentine’s Day gifts for their loved ones. These chocolate apple candies are available on all Chinese e-commerce websites. They can be seen here and here. Also, on one of the websites, it can be clearly seen what lies inside the chocolate apple. So, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post shows the manufacturing process of chocolate apple candies, not artificial apples.
