Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 began on 27 August and will conclude on 6 September, with grand celebrations taking place across India. Devotees are creating Ganesh idols in diverse styles and elaborate setups, and the visarjan processions have also begun in many places (here and here). Amid these festivities, a video (here, here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing the making of a massive Ganesh idol, claimed to be the world’s largest Ganapati statue in Chennai. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral video shows the world’s largest Ganapati idol being built in Chennai for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025.

Fact: The video is AI-generated. A watermark traced it to the account hoohoocreations80, which describes itself as a digital creator specializing in AI-driven content. AI detection tools flagged the clip as 99.9% likely AI-generated. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

On closely watching the video, most frames show workers engaged in making the statue. However, their movements and working style reveal several inconsistencies. The gestures appear unnatural in many places, which is common in AI-generated content, indicating that the video may be AI-generated.

On another close watch, we noticed a watermark on the video that read “hoohoocreations80.” We accessed this account and found the same video uploaded on 23 August 2025, with the caption “Ganesh Chaturthi Special.”

The bio of the profile clearly mentions that Hoohoo Creations is a digital creator and Creative Director specialising in AI-driven creativity. This strongly suggests that the viral video is AI-generated. This finding is further reinforced by the presence of several other AI-made videos on the account (here and here).

To verify whether the video was AI-generated, we ran it through an AI detection tool, Hive (archived), which flagged it as 99.9% likely to be AI-generated.

Additionally, like many other cities, Chennai is also celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with numerous idols across the city including one idol made with 7,500 books, including 5,000 copies of the Bhagavad Gita. However, none of these idols match the one seen in the viral video. Taken together with the other evidence, this confirms that the video is AI-generated.

To sum up, an AI-generated video of a large Ganesh idol is being falsely shared as the world’s largest Ganesh idol made in Chennai.
