A video (here and here) going viral on social media shows people throwing stones at army vehicles, with claims suggesting it is from India, specifically Kashmir, according to some posts. Let’s find out the truth behind this video.

Claim: The viral video shows people throwing stones at army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Fact: The video is from Kenya and shows protests that took place in Nairobi on 25 June 2025 against the government, leading to clashes between police and protesters. No such recent incident has been reported in Jammu and Kashmir. Hence, the claim is FLASE.
To find the truth, we performed a reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the viral video, which led us to similar visuals, claiming that the video is from Kenya. Some posts specifically mentioned that it is from Thika Road, Nairobi (here, here, here and here).
Further research using relevant keywords and the date of the post led us to several reports confirming that the protest took place in Kenya on 25 June 2025 (here, here and here). According to Al Jazeera (here and here), thousands of people took to the streets in Nairobi to protest against the government, leading to clashes between police and protesters, during which stones were thrown and tear gas shells were used. The protests marked the first anniversary of the 2024 anti-government movement, when thousands stormed Parliament over tax hikes and economic issues, resulting in at least 60 deaths. On 25 June 2025, at least 16 people were reportedly killed during nationwide protests against police brutality and government corruption, as stated by Amnesty International and the Kenya National Human Rights Commission. The United Nations Human Rights Office also expressed concern over the deaths and injuries of protesters during the demonstrations.

To verify the location, we did a side-by-side comparison of the viral video and visuals from the specific incident in Kenya. This clearly shows that the video is from Kenya, not from India.

Additionally, a relevant keyword search on Google for any such recent incident of people throwing stones at army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir yielded no results.
To sum up, a video of a protest against police in Kenya is falsely shared as if it is from Jammu and Kashmir.
