A video (here, here, and here) of a man allegedly selling ‘halal panipuri’ is doing the rounds on social media lately; halal here implies that the seller is Muslim. In the viral video, a man is seen washing his hands and throwing sweat into the panipuri water. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Visulas of a Muslim panipuri seller contaminating the panipuri water before selling it to his customers.
Fact: This is a scripted video made for entertainment purposes, not a real one. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the authenticity of the viral video, we conducted a reverse image search on a few of the video’s keyframes. Consequently, we located the video on the verified Facebook page of actress Sanjana Galrani. The extended version of the viral video was posted on this page on 8 May 2024.

The accompanying caption in the post states that the page shares scripted dramas and parody videos for entertainment and awareness purposes, which contradicts the claim that the viral video is of a true incident.

The video uploaded here concludes with a message cautioning viewers about such sellers, emphasising vigilance, but it never mentions the seller’s religious affiliation.
To sum up, this viral video of a panipuri seller contaminating the food before selling is scripted.
