This viral video of a burqa-clad woman being hit on the head by a man is from Bangladesh, not India

A video showing a burqa-clad woman being hit on the head by a man and collapsing on the road is going viral on social media (here, here, and here). The post is being shared with claims that the incident took place in India and that a Hindu man attacked a Muslim woman. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a Hindu man hitting a burqa-clad woman on the head and leaving her fainted on the road in India.

Fact: The video does not show an incident from India. It took place in Bangladesh, as indicated by an advertisement board of an educational institution based in Dhaka. A vehicle marked ‘Energypac JAC Motors’ is also visible in the video; these vehicles are available only in Bangladesh and not in India. According to Bangladesh24Online, dated 27 November 2025, an individual named Ashraful had given his wife triple talaq and later wanted to return to her. He allegedly pressured her to perform a Hilla marriage with her father so they could legally remarry. When the woman refused, stating she wanted to live independently, Ashraful reportedly became enraged and assaulted her in public. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Upon closely observing the video, we noticed an advertisement board with Bengali text that reads: “Madrasatul Ihsan, Al Islamia Dhamati, In the 2024 academic year.”

We searched Google using relevant keywords and found an educational institution with the same name in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The address listed was “83/1, Road–2, Kalyanpur, Mirpur, Bangladesh”, confirming that the institution is based in Bangladesh. This indicates that the location of the viral clip is Bangladesh, not India. We then reviewed whether this organisation had a branch in India, but found no evidence of that. We also came across a Facebook page of an organisation with a similar name operating in Kenya, but there was still no indication of its presence in India.

The last frame of the video shows a passing vehicle with ‘Energypac JAC’ written on its front panel. JAC Motors is a major Chinese automobile company, and its vehicles are not available in the Indian market. Energypac, meanwhile, is a Bangladeshi company and the sole distributor of JAC Motors in Bangladesh.

When the blue JAC truck seen in the viral video is compared with the JAC Motors truck in the reference photo, it matches the same model. The comparison can be seen below.

Reports (here, here) from 2014 suggested that the company was preparing to enter the Indian market. However, we did not find any updates on what happened afterwards. The company is not currently operating in India.

Further, we found a Facebook post dated 27 November 2025, sharing a report by the Bangladeshi media outlet Bangladesh24Online, which featured the same video. According to the report, an individual named Ashraful had given his wife triple talaq and later wanted to return to her. He allegedly pressured her to perform a Hilla marriage with her father so they could legally remarry. When the woman refused, stating she wanted to live independently, Ashraful reportedly became enraged and assaulted her in public. However, the report does not provide details about the exact location of the incident or any police action taken.

We also reached out to Bangladesh24Online seeking further details about the incident and will update the article once we receive a response.

To sum up, this viral video of a burqa-clad woman being hit on the head by a man is from Bangladesh, not India.
