A video of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari addressing a public meeting is going viral on social media (here, here, and here). In the video, he is allegedly heard saying that the BJP won’t survive here unless the party changes its attitude. He further accused the BJP of driving everyone away by labelling them as Bangladeshis. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
Claim: The video shows BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari stating that his party will not survive in West Bengal unless it changes its attitude.
Fact: Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks were made in the context of addressing allegations against the BJP and defending the party’s stance on voter lists and ‘illegal infiltrators’. He did not say that the BJP will not survive in West Bengal; the clip shared online is presented out of context. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to an extended version of the same video, which was live-streamed on Facebook on 17 August 2025. The speech was delivered at a public meeting organised at Taratala in Kolkata. The video was also live-streamed on the same day on the official BJP West Bengal handle on X.
Upon reviewing the full video, we found that the viral clip was taken from the 13:48-minute mark, where Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks were made about allegations against the BJP. The viral clip is therefore presented out of context. Adhikari, in his speech, criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other Trinamool Congress leaders and their families for corruption, addressed allegations against the BJP, and defended the party’s stance on ‘illegal infiltrators’.
He is heard saying (translated from Hindi), “What did they say here? They said, ‘I will wipe out every trace of the BJP. BJP will not remain here. Change your attitude. BJP people, come to the right path. What is the BJP doing? BJP is chasing everyone away. Calling everyone Bangladeshi.” He immediately refuted these allegations, adding, “No, listen carefully. On 15th August, Independence Day, from the Red Fort, our Prime Minister clearly stated that there are no infiltrators in any country in the world. There will be no intruders in our country. Why are you so scared?” He further defended the party, saying, “Those who are Indian Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, or Buddhist are not included in this. During the Summary Intensive Revision of the voter list, Indians have nothing to worry about.” He added, “Not only Indians, even those who came from Bangladesh to West Bengal as Hindus to protect their religion are not considered infiltrators. They are our friends, relatives, and refugees.”
Suvendu Adhikari has been demanding a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state for the past few months. During the speech, he claimed that four categories of voters, including deceased voters and those who are residents of Bangladesh, would be removed from the voter list.
To sum up, a video of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s speech is presented out of context as if he is criticising his party.
