Video of the Gen-Z protests from Nepal is falsely shared as an attack on a BJP leader’s vehicle in Bihar

Bihar is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections, and political campaign is intensifying. Amid this, a video (here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing a mob vandalising a car in public, with claims that it belongs to a BJP leader from Bihar. Let’s find out the truth behind this video.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral video shows a mob destroying a car in Bihar, belonging to a BJP leader.

Fact: The video is from Nepal, showing anti-corruption and anti-censorship protests during the Gen-Z movement, and is not related to Bihar or any BJP leader. Hence the claim is FALSE.

On close examination of the viral video, the vehicle’s number plate does not resemble an Indian registration plate, and when compared with Nepalese vehicle plates, it matches (here and here).

To further verify the truth, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same footage along with other clips from the Nepal Gen Z protest. The video was uploaded on the YouTube channel Facts Guy Stand Out, which mentioned that the visuals are from Nepal’s Gen Z protest.

Another result led us to an online news outlet called Times G, which uploaded the same video with the caption: “The anti-corruption and anti-censorship protests that have gripped Kathmandu have now spilled into Pokhara, where demonstrators torched and overturned a government official’s car.” This confirms that the video is likely from Nepal, not Bihar.

Further research led us to multiple news reports covering the incident, including stills shown in the viral video, all confirming that the incident took place in Nepal (here and here).

To sum up, a video of the Gen-Z protests in Nepal is falsely shared as an attack on a BJP leader’s vehicle in Bihar.
