In the context of Indore being declared one of India’s cleanest cities in India in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-2025 Awards, a video (here, here, here & here) of a man spraying water from a water tanker onto another man, who is allegedly seen urinating in a public place, is being widely shared on social media. It is being claimed that the video is from Indore. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of a man being sprayed for public urination in Indore.
Fact: The video is from Lima, Peru. It has nothing to do with Indore or India. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
First, we searched the internet to determine whether such an incident had taken place in Indore recently, but we could not find any reports.
Next, we conducted a reverse image search of keyframes extracted from the viral video, which led us to several local media reports (here, here, here & here) from March 2025, published by media agencies in South American countries including Peru and Ecuador.
According to these reports, the incident took place in Lima, the capital city of Peru, near the metro tracks. Additionally, the building named ‘Cinemark’ seen in the viral video can also be found in Google Street View imagery of Lima, indicating that the video is indeed from Lima, Peru.
To sum it up, the video showing a man being sprayed with water from a tanker, allegedly as punishment for urinating in public, originates from Lima, Peru, not Indore, India.
