A video going viral on social media (here, here, and here) is being shared with claims that it shows a Pakistani spy, a man disguised as a woman, being caught and escorted by the police. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
Claim: The video shows a Pakistani spy, disguised as a woman, being caught and escorted by the police.
Fact: The video does not show a Pakistani spy. It shows Dayashankar alias Bittu, a wanted criminal from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, who disguised himself as a woman to evade arrest. He was caught by the police in June 2025. Jodhpur Sadar Kotwali SHO Anil Kumar confirmed that Dayashankar is a local history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases and has no links to Pakistan. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple media reports (here, here, here, and here) from June 2025 that featured the same video. According to these reports, the video shows an incident from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where police arrested a wanted criminal named Dayashankar alias Bittu. To avoid arrest, he had disguised himself as a woman, wearing a sari and sitting with a veil inside his house in the Sadar Kotwali area of East Jodhpur. Dayashankar, a known history-sheeter, had been on the run since February 2025 in connection with an assault case. Around 13 cases, including robbery, assault, and issuing threats, were registered against him.
We also found an X post (archived) dated 19 June 2025 by the Jodhpur Police, in which they shared a newspaper clipping related to the arrest of Dayashankar.
We then contacted Jodhpur Sadar Kotwali SHO Anil Kumar, who confirmed that Dayashankar is a history-sheeter wanted in an assault case and had been absconding for months. He said the accused was caught in June 2025 while disguised as a woman and that the viral video is now being shared with a false claim. There is no evidence of his being a Pakistani spy. Three more individuals were arrested for their involvement in his crimes, and all were presented before the court. The case is now in the briefing stage.
To sum up, a video of a Jodhpur history-sheeter being arrested in female disguise, falsely shared as that of a Pakistani spy.
