Claim: The viral video shows Donald Trump saying that the floods in Pakistan are caused by India opening dams in Kashmir.

Fact: The video is a deepfake. Trump has not made any such statement. The original video, uploaded by Forbes Breaking News on 31 May 2025, is unrelated where Trump discusses trade issues with China. PIB Fact Check has also clarified that the viral video is AI-generated and fake. Hence the claim is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we conducted a keyword search to check if Donald Trump ever made such a statement, but found no such evidence. Further research into the causes of the recent floods in Pakistan pointed to reports highlighting unusually heavy and intense monsoon rainfall, cloudbursts, flash floods in mountainous regions, glacial melting, and glacial lake outburst floods. None of these factors is connected to India or the opening of dams in Kashmir (here, here and here).

To verify the truth, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the original source of the viral video. The watermark on the clip shows GVN News, and we found that it was uploaded on their TikTok handle. Another result directed us to the original video uploaded by Forbes Breaking News on 31 May 2025. In that video, Trump appears in the same attire and background as seen in the viral clip. However, he does not mention anything about the floods in Pakistan or India. Instead, the visuals show him speaking to reporters in the Oval Office about China, specifically responding to a question regarding China allegedly violating a trade agreement on tariffs.

To verify whether the video was AI-generated, we ran it through Hive AI Detector, which indicated a 98.7% likelihood of being AI-generated, confirming that the viral video is a deepfake.

Additionally, the PIB Fact Check team clarified about this video through their official X handle on 30 August 2025. They stated that the viral video showing US President Donald Trump blaming India for the floods in Pakistan is an AI-generated deepfake. The clarification emphasised that Trump has made no such statement, and the original video, dated 30 May 2025, is unrelated to the floods in Pakistan.

To sum up, the viral video of Donald Trump saying that the floods in Pakistan are caused by India opening dams in Kashmir is a deepfake.
