This video of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut allegedly criticising the Election Commission over the ‘vote chori’ controversy is edited

On 07 August 2025, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a press conference, accusing the Election Commission of manipulating the voter list and calling it “vote chori.” Since then, the opposition has rallied together, criticising both the Commission and the BJP government.

In response, the Election Commission of India, during a press conference on 17 August 2025, rejected Rahul Gandhi’s “vote chori” allegations and dismissed claims of any irregularities in the special intensive revision exercise in poll-bound Bihar.

Amidst the controversy, a video of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is circulating on social media (here, here, and here), allegedly showing her lashing out at the Election Commission over this controversy. In the video, she can be heard saying, “As you can see, the way the Election Commission has insulted people and voters, many of them are expressing grief over this. They have been deeply humiliated in their communities, and in a way, their respect has been completely shattered by Rahul Gandhi ji.” Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

Claim: The video shows BJP MP Kangana Ranaut criticising the Election Commission over the vote chori controversy.

Fact: The viral video is digitally altered. In the original video, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut criticised Rahul Gandhi, alleging he insulted voters and created a spectacle in Parliament. The viral clip was selectively edited to falsely suggest she was targeting the Election Commission. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple media reports (here, here, and here) featuring the same video dated 18 August 2025. In the original video, Kangana Ranaut can be heard saying: “As you all can see, the Election Commission reprimanded Rahul Gandhi yesterday for the way he insulted people and voters. The voters whose names were mentioned are expressing their grief in large numbers. They have been insulted a lot in their society; in a way, their entire respect has been shattered by Rahul Gandhi. And even after being reprimanded so much yesterday, the drama they created here today shows that if they do not get the throne, they will not let any work happen. They will create chaos everywhere. When they got the chance, they indulged in corruption. Now, when the country is progressing, they are feeling sad about it. But the public is watching, and that is why they will not be able to win any election.”

We found that the viral video was selectively edited to remove the line, “How much reprimand has been given to Rahul Gandhi.” By cropping this part, the video creates the false impression that Kangana Ranaut was criticising the Election Commission, whereas in the original video, she was targeting Rahul Gandhi.

We also found multiple media reports (here, here) covering this interview of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. According to these reports, she targeted Rahul Gandhi, describing the opposition’s protest in Parliament over the voter list revision in Bihar and the allegations of vote chori against the Election Commission as a spectacle. None of these reports mentioned that Kangana Ranaut criticised the Election Commission over the vote chori controversy.

To sum up, this video of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut allegedly criticising the Election Commission over the vote chori controversy is edited.
