Video of an adventurer losing consciousness while free diving in Egypt is falsely shared as showing last moments of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore

Amid this, a video (here, here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing a man struggling during scuba diving while a trainer lifts him to the surface of the water, with the claim that it captures the last moments of Zubeen Garg. Let’s check the truth behind this video.

Claim: The viral video shows Assamese singer Zubeen Garg struggling while scuba diving in Singapore, depicting the last moments before his death.

Fact: The video is unrelated to Zubeen Garg. It was originally posted on 14 May 2025 by adventure enthusiast Marat, who is alive, showing him losing consciousness while free diving off the shores of Dahab, Egypt. Zubeen Garg’s death was confirmed on 19 September 2025 during a separate scuba-diving incident. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

To verify the truth, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the original source of the video. It was posted on Instagram by a user named Marat, an adventure enthusiast, on 14 May 2025, well before the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. In the caption, Marat explained that he had fallen unconscious while diving and regained consciousness after 3 minutes and 13 seconds underwater.

In his original post, Marat mentioned that his video was filmed by a team named freelookaround. On exploring their profile, we found that the team specialises in content creation around free diving and is based in Dahab, Egypt. This makes it clear that the incident shown in the video likely took place off the shores of Dahab, Egypt.

Marat also mentioned the safety team in free diving, highlighting Gus Kreivenas, a professional free diving trainer. On checking his profile, we found a link to the website of the free diving organisation named Touchdown Space. The website clearly states that Touchdown was founded in 2019 by Gus Kreivenas and is a world-leading free diving school operating in Dahab, Egypt.

We also geo-located the diving spot on Google Maps in Dahab, and a side-by-side comparison of the viral video with the mapped location confirms that they show the same location. This proves that the incident occurred in Dahab, Egypt, and not in Singapore.

Additionally, while several photos and videos of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg’s Singapore trip and diving activities are going viral on social media (here, here and here), the viral video in question has no connection to his incident.

To sum up, a video of an adventurer losing consciousness while free diving in Egypt is falsely shared as showing the last moments of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore.
