Video of Actor Vijay’s office demolition for encroachment is falsely linked to his Iftar party
Ramzan month began on 02 March 2025 and Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Thalapathy Vijay hosted an Iftar party in Chennai on 07 March 2025, where he also participated in Namaz with Muslims. Amid this, a viral video and photo (here, here and here) on social media show the demolition of a wall featuring Vijay’s image, with colours resembling those of the TVK party flag. The claim circulating online suggests that Vijay’s office was demolished after he hosted the Iftar. Let’s verify the truth behind this claim.
Claim: The viral video shows actor Vijay’s office being demolished as a consequence of him hosting an Iftar party in Chennai.
Fact: The viral video is unrelated to the Iftar. The footage is from 18 February 2025, when authorities demolished a TVK youth wing office in Tiruvallur for encroaching on public land. The incident occurred before Ramzan began, confirming that the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we conducted a reverse image search, which led us to the same video uploaded on Instagram by the account Thalapathy TVK 0622 on 19 February 2025, well before the start of Ramzan. The video shows the demolition of an office with police present for security, confirming that the incident occurred before Vijay’s Iftar party.
We also found a longer version video of the same incident uploaded by News Tamil 24×7 on 18 February 2025 with the caption: “TVK office | Tiruvallur | TVK office Demolish.” In the news report, the reporter states that a demolition drive against encroachments began in Tiruvallur, targeting illegally occupied houses and shops. Vijay’s TVK office was also demolished as it was built on public land along the Tiruvallur highway. This confirms that the demolition was due to encroachment and not linked to his Iftar party.
A detailed investigation into the incident led us to multiple reports (here, here and here) confirming that Actor Vijay launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on 02 February 2024, and has been actively working towards the 2026 assembly elections. On 18 February 2025, officials demolished a TVK youth wing office in Tiruvallur for encroaching on public land along the Chennai-Tirupati National Highway. The Highways Department had issued a prior notice, and a JCB was used to remove the structure, causing a temporary commotion as TVK members gathered at the site.
Additionally, Tamil actor and TVK leader Vijay hosted an Iftar party in Chennai on 07 March 2025 where he participated in prayers and broke fast with attendees. Many others joined the event, but the viral video of the office demolition is unrelated to the Iftar, as the incident occurred in February 2025 much before Ramzan began.
