A video of a girl being thrashed by a group of people has gone viral on social media with a claim that a Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh was beaten for drawing water from a well that belongs to an upper caste community. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Fact: The incident in the video took place in Gujarat, not in Uttar Pradesh. A tribal girl of Chhota Udepur district (Gujarat) was brutally beaten by her relatives for eloping with a man from the same village. After the video went viral on social media, the Police have booked a case on the people who were involved in the incident. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google reverse image search, it is found that the incident shown in the video took place in Gujarat, not in Uttar Pradesh. A tribal girl of Chhota Udepur district (Gujarat) was brutally thrashed by her relatives for eloping with a man from the same village. After the video went viral on social media platforms, the Chhota Udepur Police have filed an FIR against the three men who were involved in this incident. A Police officer, while explaining about the incident to media, said that the family thought she brought disrespect to the family, and hence the relatives thrashed her brutally in front of the public.
