A video (here, here and here) of a man dragging a woman out of a house and pouring soil on her with a shovel is doing the rounds on social media. It is being shared with a claim that this incident took place in Karnataka and shows a 65-year-old muslim who married his 42-year-old sister, allegedly trying to bury his 62-year-old first wife (the woman seen in the viral video) alive. We will fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Video of a muslim man in Karnataka trying to bury his elderly wife alive.
Fact: This incident has nothing to do with India, it shows an incident from Bangladesh. The video shows Khalilur Rahman, trying to bury his sick wife, Khosheda Begum alive at their house. It reportedly happened on 8 August 2025 in the Khoshalpur Kanipara area of Kakilakura Union of Sreebardi Upazila in Sherpur district, Bangladesh. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on the internet using a few keyframes from the viral video. This search led us to multiple Bangladeshi media reports (here, here, here and here) about this incident. As per these reports, the incident was reported in Bangladesh’s Sreebardi Upazila of the Sherpur District.
The man seen in the video is identified as Khalilur Rahman. On 8 August 2025, he physically attacked and tried to bury his wife, Khosheda Begum, alive in the yard of his house in the Khoshalpur Kanipara area of the Kakilakura Union located in Sreebardi. His wife has been sick for a long time due to paralysis, according to the locals and the man did this act after she defecated on the bed (here, here and here).
Her grandson, Md. Khokon recorded this incident and posted the video on Facebook, which later went viral. The media has also widely reported this incident (here, here, and here). Sribardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Anwar Zahid told the media, “Police were sent to the spot after watching the video. I heard that the matter was resolved locally. However, legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.“
After this incident went viral, local organisations and a former MP from Sherpur 3 constituency provided financial assistance to the victim (here and here).
To sum up, the viral video does not depict an incident that happened in Karnataka, India. It shows a man named Khalilur Rahman attacking his sick wife, Khosheda Begum and trying to bury her alive in Bangladesh.
