A video of a person ranting on Reliance and Ramdev’s products is being shared claiming that the person is the Himalaya Company’s Chairman. This speech of his is being widely shared on social media through a post. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of Himalaya Company Chairman ranting on Reliance and Patanjali.
Fact: The person making the speech was Bhanu Pratap Singh, a well-known lawyer and not the Chairman of Himalaya Company. Meraj Manal is the Chairman of Himalaya Global Holdings Ltd. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, we found a YouTube video containing the same visuals. This YouTube video was uploaded on 25 January 2020, with a Hindi title translated as, ‘Stop saying Hindustani – Bhanu Pratap Singh! There was panic among Muslims on CAA’. At 4.39 timestamp, the video has been clipped and shared as a 2-minute 20-second video attached to the post. According to the description of the YouTube video, the person in the video is Bhanu Pratap Singh, a well-known lawyer. In his speech, he was addressing the public sitting on a dharna in Mustafabad, Delhi after hearing in the Supreme Court on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
According to the Himalaya Company’s website, Mr. Mohammad Manal was its founder and passed away in 1986. Meraj Manal is the current Chairman of Himalaya Global Holdings Ltd.
