Video of a Babri Mosque timeline exhibition in Thane is falsely linked to Bangladesh

A viral video (here, here, and here) on social media allegedly shows visuals of the demolition of Babri Masjid (Mosque) being displayed on huge screens in Bangladesh. This is allegedly being done to incite violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: The video shows the demolition of the Babri Masjid being displayed on huge screens in Bangladesh.

Fact: The incident in the video is from Thane, Maharashtra, not Bangladesh. There are no media reports on such screenings happening in Bangladesh. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

We performed a keyword search to check the viral claim’s veracity. This search did not yield any credible information or news reports to validate the claim that screenings of the Babri Masjid demolition were being organized in Bangladesh.

While watching the viral video, we observed a text written at the bottom of the screen where the Babri Masjid video is being displayed. The text reads ‘Social Democratic Party of India,’ an Indian political party. We have noticed that the flags of SDPI are placed in the location seen in the video.

Further, we performed a keyword search on the internet to see if the SDPI had uploaded this video on their social media handles. This led us to an Instagram post by SDPI Mumbra Kalwa (localities in Thane) that has the same video.

According to the description of this post, the visuals show the ‘Babri Masjid Timeline Exhibition’ displayed at Darul Falah, Mumbra. Additionally, we found the same video on SDPI Mumbra’s Facebook page.’ We also found the viral video uploaded on their YouTube channel and Facebook page. 

To confirm the location mentioned in the posts made by SDPI, we looked for Darul Falah, Mumbra, on Google Maps and found that it is a Mosque in Mumbra. The visuals of this Mosque can be seen in the viral video, too.

To sum up, a video of Babri Masjid’s demolition timeline screened in Thane, Maharashtra is falsely shared as from Bangladesh.
