A video of a young girl singing Mohammad Rafi’s song “Deewana Hua Badal” is widely circulating on social media (here, here, and here). It is being shared with the claim that she is singer Amit Kumar’s daughter and singer Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.
Claim: The video shows Muktika Ganguly, Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter, singing the song Deewana Hua Badal.
Fact: The girl in the video is Ananya Sabnis, a vocalist from Mumbai, and not Muktika Ganguly, singer Amit Kumar’s daughter and Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook post featuring the same video uploaded on 15 July 2020 by a digital creator and private tutor named Manisha Sandesh Sabnis, who claimed that the girl in the video is Ananya Sabnis.
We then conducted a Google keyword search for “Ananya Sabnis,” which led us to her Facebook page, where she identifies herself as a vocalist from Mumbai. On reviewing her profile, we found a similar video featuring Ananya Sabnis singing, shot in the same background, uploaded on 26 July 2020.
We learned that the same video had gone viral earlier in 2020 with a similar claim that the girl is Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter, Muktika Ganguly. However, several fact-checkers debunked this claim as fake (here, here, and here).
At the time, BOOM contacted Ananya Sabnis’ music teacher, Usha Timothy, who confirmed her identity and said she had been training Ananya for the past five to six years. Sabnis’ mother, Manisha Mainkar Sabnis, also corroborated the same, stating that Ananya has been regularly posting her singing videos on social media for over two years and dismissed the claim linking her to Kishore Kumar.
Further, in 2018, singer Amit Kumar, son of Kishore Kumar, shared a photo with his daughter Muktika on social media. A comparison of these photos clearly shows that Muktika looks completely different from the girl in the viral video. A few of his recent posts with his daughter can be seen here, here, and here.
Muktika Ganguly, Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter, made her singing debut in August 2015 with an album titled Baba Mere, which was dedicated to her grandfather. One of the songs from the album features Muktika singing alongside her father, Amit Kumar.
We came across an Instagram post by Muktika Ganguly dated 01 August 2025, in which she announced a special Instagram Live on 04 August 2025 to celebrate Kishore Kumar’s birth anniversary. Interestingly, the announcement banner mentions her as “Kishore Kumar’s grand daughter” in brackets next to her name.
To sum up, this viral video shows vocalist Ananya Sabnis from Mumbai, not Kishore Kumar’s granddaughter Muktika Ganguly.
