On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad. The aircraft lost altitude within minutes and went down in the Meghani Nagar area near the airport, erupting in flames (here, here). It crashed into the hostel building of B.J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, which was reportedly housing medical students at the time. Over 240 people were on board, including nationals of India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada (here). Investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing, led by the DGCA, AAIB, and Air India.

In this context, a video circulating on social media (here, here, and here) shows rows of coffins laid out inside a hall, each covered with a white cloth and decorated with red flower petals. It is being shared with the claim that it shows the victims of the 12 June 2025 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows dead bodies of victims from the 12 June 2025 Air India crash in Ahmedabad.

Fact: The video is available online since at least May 2025, before the crash took place. Multiple social media posts featuring the same footage confirm it predates the Ahmedabad incident and is unrelated to it. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple social media (here, here, here, and here) (archived) posts from May 2025 featuring the same footage, confirming that it was already online before the 12 June 2025 Air India crash. The posts allege that the video was filmed in Pakistan.

According to current reports, around 270 bodies have been recovered. Given the condition of the remains, authorities are relying on DNA testing for identification, which may take up to 72 hours per case. In some cases, complications such as the discovery of more than one head in a single body bag have further delayed the process. Efforts continue to support the affected families and ensure the dignified handover of the remains.

Though we could not independently verify when & where the video was originally filmed, available evidence confirms that it was posted online before the 12 June 2025 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad and is unrelated to the incident.

To sum up, this viral video does not show the dead bodies of victims from the 12 June 2025 Ahmedabad plane crash; it predates the incident.
