This viral video, claiming to show an Indian student serving in the Russian Army pleading for help, is AI-generated

A video (here, here, here and here) showing a person in an army uniform pleading for rescue on a battlefield, claiming that ten of his companions have been killed, is going viral on social media. It is being shared with the claim that several youngsters from Haryana went to Russia for education, were given only 10 days of training during wartime, and were then sent to the battlefield, where many are now reportedly trapped in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is also being alleged that several bodies of those recruited are missing, some have returned home, and one of them is seeking help in this viral video. Let’s verify the truth behind this circulating claim.

Claim: The viral video shows an Indian student serving in the Russian Army pleading for help from a battlefield.

Fact: The video is AI-generated, not real. The original post came from an Instagram account that tagged it as AI, and AI-detection tools flagged the clip as 99.95% artificially generated. While there are reports about Indians being misled into joining the Russian Army, this viral video does not show any real Indian soldier and is entirely digitally created. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

To verify the truth behind the video, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same clip uploaded on an Instagram account named vsdipak576. The caption read, “Please share this video with your friends,” but the hashtags included terms like #aiart, suggesting that the video is AI-generated. Upon checking the uploader’s profile, we found several similar videos created using AI (here, here and here), further indicating that the viral video is not real.

To further verify whether the video was AI-generated, we analysed it using Hive, an AI-detection tool. The tool flagged the video as 99.9% AI-generated, confirming that the clip is digitally created and not an original recording.

Further search to verify whether any Indians are serving in the Russian Army led us to a recent Times of India report confirming that at least 44 Indian nationals are currently part of the Russian Army amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict. According to the report, many of them were taken to Russia with promises of education or high-paying jobs but were later forced into combat.

Another report dated 3 November 2025 highlighted protests at Jantar Mantar, where families of the affected Indians demanded the safe return of their loved ones. They alleged that agents lured young men with lucrative job offers and promises of citizenship before sending them to the war zone.

To sum up, the viral video claiming to show an Indian serving in the Russian Army pleading for help is AI-generated and not real.
