This viral photo, allegedly showing Kuldeep Singh Sengar being garlanded after his release, is AI-generated

The Delhi High Court on 23 December 2025 suspended the life sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case and granted him conditional bail pending appeal. In this context, a photo is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) claiming to show Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Sengar being welcomed with a garland after his alleged release from jail following a court order. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The photo shows Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar being garlanded after his release from jail.

Fact: The viral photo does not show a real incident; it is generated using artificial intelligence, and multiple AI detection tools confirm this. Kuldeep Singh Sengar remained in jail as he was serving a concurrent sentence in the custodial death case of the victim’s father. The Supreme Court also stayed the Delhi High Court’s 23 December 2025 bail order before it could take effect. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To verify whether Kuldeep Singh Sengar was released from jail after the Delhi High Court granted him bail, we conducted a Google search and found (here, here, and here) that the Supreme Court of India stayed the Delhi High Court’s order of conditional bail and suspension of sentence on 29 December 2025, following a petition filed by the CBI, putting the High Court’s decision on hold. He was never released following the High Court’s order on 23 December 2025, as he is also serving a concurrent sentence in the custodial death case of the victim’s father, which also prevents his release.

Upon closely reviewing the viral photo, we noticed a Gemini AI logo watermark at the bottom-right corner of the photo. This watermark indicates that the photo was generated using Google’s Gemini AI model and is not a real photo.

To further verify whether the viral photo is AI-generated, we analysed the photo using Synth ID and Hive AI content detection tools. SynthID indicated that the photo was generated using Google AI, while Hive AI assigned it an aggregate score of 98.1%, suggesting that the photo is likely fake.

To sum up, Kuldeep Singh Sengar was never released from the jail after the Delhi High Court suspended the life sentence in the 2017 Unnao rape case and granted him conditional bail; this photo of him being garlanded after his release from jail is AI-generated.
