On 22 April 2025, a terrorist attack targeting tourists took place in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The Resistance Front (TRF), a terrorist organisation, initially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, on 25 April 2025, TRF issued a fresh statement on its social media platforms, denying any involvement in the Pahalgam incident and distancing itself from the earlier claim. The attackers had opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran area, popularly known as Mini Switzerland. Several media reports stated that survivors recalled how the terrorists asked the victims about their religion before shooting them dead (here, here). According to reports, the attack claimed the lives of 26 people (here, here).
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government took a series of strong measures against Pakistan, accusing it of supporting militant activities. India suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani military, naval, and air force advisors from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, and withdrew its own military advisors from Islamabad. All border crossings with Pakistan were closed, and strict visa restrictions were imposed on Pakistani citizens, who were ordered to leave India within 48 hours. Indian citizens in Pakistan were also advised to return immediately.
In this context, a video (here, here, and here) claiming to show U.S. President Donald Trump expressing full support for India’s actions, standing with India in its war on terror, and blaming Pakistan for the attack is being widely circulated on social media. Let’s find the truth behind this.
Claim: US President Donald Trump is publicly supporting India’s actions against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.
Fact: The video in question is fake and uses an AI-generated audio that is overlaid on an unrelated video. In the original footage, Donald Trump spoke on various political, social, and religious issues during the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington on 07 February 2019. While he did condemn the Pahalgam attack and expressed support for India’s fight against terrorism, he also stated that both India and Pakistan are his friends and expressed hope that they would resolve the Kashmir issue peacefully. Therefore, the claim is MISLEADING.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on the viral video, which led us to the original source, revealing that it was live-streamed on 07 February 2019 by media outlets like The Independent, Fox News, and others on their official YouTube channels.
According to media reports (here and here), Donald Trump addressed conservative Christian concerns at this event in 2019, pledging support for religious liberty and opposing abortion. He highlighted his administration’s role in securing the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson from Turkey, praised faith-based institutions.
Furthermore, to verify the audio in the video, we used a deepfake detector, which indicated that the audio was likely fake. In other words, an AI-generated audio was overlaid on an unrelated Trump video to generate the now viral video.
Many media outlets reported that Donald Trump condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed support for India’s fight against terrorism. However, while discussing India-Pakistan tensions (here, here, and here), he inaccurately stated, “Both countries have been fighting in Kashmir for a thousand years.” Trump also described the attack as “despicable” and claimed tensions along the border have lasted “1,500 years,” though he expressed hope that the leaders would resolve the issue. He added that the tension between the two countries has always existed.
To sum up, this video of Trump supporting India regarding actions against Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack is fake.
