A collage of two photos is being shared on social media with a claim that the person in the collage, Kamlesh, sacrificed his life for the country this day (the picture was posted on 09 November 2022). Let’s fact-check the claim made in this post.
Claim: Kamlesh, a 19-year-old Indian Army man, sacrificed himself for the country on 09 November 2022.
Fact: According to news reports, Indian Army soldier Kamlesh Kumar Singh lost his life in the shelling of Pakistan. He was martyred in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir in September 2019. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
We searched the internet using relevant keywords to know the veracity of the post’s claim and were led to a few news reports (here and here) that featured the picture of Kamlesh, similar to the one in the viral post. Reportedly, Kamlesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Lakhanpura village, Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar, was martyred in the shelling of Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara. This incident happened in September 2019.
According to ETV Bharath, Kamlesh joined Indian Army just 14 months before this incident; his first posting was in Kupwara. News reports regarding soldier Kamlesh’s last rites can be read here and here. Kamlesh was 19 years old when he lost his life on duty.
To sum up, Indian Army soldier Kamlesh was martyred in 2019, but the post falsely claims that he lost his life recently.
