On 27 August 2025, during the Opposition bloc’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, Bihar, a video surfaced showing a man using offensive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. The video quickly went viral, sparking strong reactions. The man was later reportedly identified as Mohammad Rizvi, a resident of the Singhwara area in Darbhanga. Acting on the matter, the Bihar police arrested him on 29 August 2025. The incident triggered a political row, with parties exchanging sharp words over the use of such language in a public programme (here, here, and here).
In the aftermath of this incident, a few photographs began circulating on social media (here, here, and here). These show a person wearing a BJP scarf, another standing with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and one in a white vest. They are being shared with the claims that he is the same person who abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the opposition’s meeting in Bihar, and that he is actually a BJP leader. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.
Claim: The photos show the same person who abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opposition’s meeting in Bihar on 27 August 2025.
Fact: The viral photos are of Nek Mohammad, a BJP member from Kotma in Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, not of the accused arrested in Bihar, Rizvi alias Raja, a resident of Bhapura in Singhwara, Darbhanga. Nek Mohammad has publicly clarified that he has no connection with Bihar, has never visited the state, has not abused anyone, and that his photos are being misused. According to the Darbhanga police, the accused in Darbhanga is reportedly associated with the Congress. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
A Google Lens search of the viral photo led us to a Facebook post dated 18 July 2025, featuring the same viral photo of a person wearing a BJP scarf. The post was shared by a user named Nek Mohammad. According to the account’s bio, Nek Mohammad is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and hails from Kotma in Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh. We also found another photo of him standing with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, which appears as his Facebook page cover photo and was also uploaded as a post on his profile.
We also found another post on his profile, uploaded on 29 August 2025, in which he clarified regarding the misuse of his photo, saying that rumours were being spread about him. In the post, he shared screenshots of several social media posts claiming that he was the person who abused the Prime Minister in Bihar. In the comments section, he pinned a video of himself, in which he stated that he had complained to the Kotma police station regarding the matter.
Nek Mohammad once again clarified on an NDTV show that he has no connection with Bihar and has never visited the state. He stated that he has not abused anyone, emphasised that Modi is their leader, and added that his photos are being misused to defame him and the BJP.
According to an X-post by the Darbhanga police dated 29 August 2025, the accused, who used abusive language against Prime Minister Modi, is identified as Rizvi, also known as Raja, and has been arrested. Raja is a resident of Bhapura in the Singhwara police station area of Darbhanga district, and his father’s name is Mohammad Anees.
Talking to Aaj Tak, SDPO-2 Surendra Kumar Suman of Darbhanga Sadar stated that based on the findings so far, it appears that the accused in this case, Rizvi alias Raja, is associated with the Congress.
However, we could not independently verify the political affiliation of the person who abused Prime Minister Modi. Available evidence confirms that the viral photos are of Nek Mohammad from the BJP in Kotma, Madhya Pradesh, and he is not the same person who was arrested in Bihar.
To sum up, these viral photos show Nek Mohammad, a BJP member from MP, not the man who abused PM Modi in Bihar.
