The wedding photo of Gehana Vasisth and Faizan Ansari is falsely shared as a Muslim man marrying his sister

A group of wedding photos are going viral (here, here and here) on social media, showing a couple in traditional attire, with the claim that the groom is Iqbal and the bride is his sister Zoya. It is being alleged that Iqbal’s love for his sister led to their marriage. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral photos show a man named Iqbal marrying his sister Zoya.

Fact: The viral photos actually feature Indian actress Gehana Vasisth and influencer Faizan Ansari, who married in a traditional Muslim ceremony. There is no credible report or evidence supporting the claim of any individual named Iqbal marrying his sister Zoya, hence the claim is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, leading us to multiple media reports (here, here and here) from June 2023. These reports confirmed that the bride in the photo is Indian actress Gehana Vasisth, known for Gandi Baat, who married influencer Faizan Ansari in a traditional Muslim nikah ceremony after converting to Islam. Her decision sparked mixed reactions, with some alleging “love jihad,” though close sources affirmed their relationship is based on genuine love. Gehana, originally from a Pandit family in Chandigarh, has faced past controversies, including an arrest linked to Raj Kundra

We identified Faizan Ansari through his IMDb profile, which describes him as an Indian actor known for appearing on the dating reality show Datebaazi alongside Bollywood superstar Shilpa Shetty on Amazon MiniTV. According to the site, Faizan is recognised as a prominent Indian celebrity with international fame. He has also worked as a cover model with Salman Khan’s sister, Shweta Rohira, and is listed among Indians awarded in Dubai.

We also identified Gehana Vasisth on IMDb, where she’s listed under her real name, Vandana Tiwari (born 16 June 1993). She is an Indian actress, model, and TV presenter who won the Miss Asia Bikini contest in 2012 and appeared in over 70 ads. Originally from a Brahmin family in Chhattisgarh, she later acted in Telugu films, TV shows like Behenein, and worked as a VJ and cricket anchor.

Additionally, we searched for any credible reports regarding a man named Iqbal marrying his sister Zoya, but found no such evidence.

To sum up, the wedding photo of Indian actors Gehana Vasisth and Faizan Ansari was falsely shared as depicting a Muslim man marrying his own sister.
