A video going viral on social media (here, here, and here) claims to be from a South Indian movie (movies of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages), depicting a scene where an actor expresses respect for faith and Hindu cultural values, defending Hindu Sanatan Dharma. The sequence portrays the actor’s reverence for Hinduism. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.
Claim: The video shows a South Indian movie, showing a scene where an actor expresses respect for Hinduism and Hindu cultural values while defending Hindu Sanatan Dharma.
Fact: The viral video clip is not from a South Indian movie. It is a scene from the Marathi movie “Dharamveer 2,” a biographical and political drama based on the life of Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe. Released on 27 September 2024. The movie, directed by Pravin Tarde, features a bilingual release in Marathi and Hindi. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to the trailer of the movie Dharamveer 2, uploaded on Zee Music Company’s YouTube channel on 20 July 2024. Several scenes from the viral video match those in the trailer.
We then searched for more details about the movie using relevant keywords and found that Dharmaveer 2 is a Marathi-language movie released on 27 September 2024. It is a sequel of a political drama and biography based on the life of Anand Dighe, a senior leader and the Thane district unit chief of Shiv Sena. The movie is directed by Pravin Tarde and produced by Mangesh Jeevan Desai and Umesh Kr Bansal.
We reviewed the movie streaming on the OTT platform, the movie bio mentioned that it was released in two languages: Marathi and Hindi. Starting from the 15:40 timestamp, we can see the sequence shared in the viral video.
We also came across media reports (here and here) highlighting that former Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde played a cameo in the movie. Both he and the then Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis were present at the movie’s trailer launch.
To sum up, the viral video shows a sequence from a Marathi movie Dharamveer 2 not from a South Indian movie.
