This offer is said to be valid from 26 December 2024 to 10 January 2025. We have also received queries on our WhatsApp tipline (+91 92470 52470) asking us to verify the truth of this claim. In this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The Hyderabad City Traffic Police of Telangana clarified on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle and Facebook page that the message claiming the Telangana police had announced discounts on pending traffic challans is fake. A similar discount scheme was announced by the Police in December 2023. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the accuracy of the viral claim, we conducted a relevant keyword search. However, we did not find any recent reports published in December 2024 indicating that the Telangana police had announced special discounts on pending traffic challans. During our search, we found several news reports (here, here, and here) published in December 2023 stating that the Telangana government announced a 60-90% discount on pending traffic challans. These reports further mentioned that the Telangana government offered a 90% discount on challans issued to pushcart owners and RTC drivers, an 80% discount for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, and a 60% discount for cars, light motor vehicles, trucks, and other heavy motor vehicles. This offer was valid from 26 December 2023 to 10 January 2024. A report published by ‘Siasat Daily’ on 15 February 2024 stated that the last date for the discount on traffic challans in Telangana was initially set for 10 January 2024, but it was extended twice, first to 31 January 2024 and again to 15 February 2024.
Furthermore, in response to these viral posts, the Hyderabad Traffic Police clarified on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle and Facebook page that the message claiming that Telangana police had announced discounts on pending traffic challans is fake. All this information makes it clear that the Telangana police did not announce any discounts on pending traffic challans in December 2024.
