A video (here, here, and here) of a man discussing the various provisions for taxpayers under the ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana’, which is claimed to come into effect from 01 April 2025, is going viral on social media platforms. Various websites (here, here, and here) also claim that the Government of India is offering rewards to honest taxpayers, such as travel discounts and free internet data, under this new scheme. We have also received several queries on our WhatsApp tipline (+91 92470 52470) asking us to verify whether any such scheme has indeed been launched by the Indian government. Through this article, let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: The Government of India has launched a scheme named ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana’ to reward taxpayers.

Fact: The Government of India has not launched any scheme named ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana’ to reward taxpayers. The viral video claiming that the Indian government launched the ‘Kardata Kalyan Yojana’, effective from 01 April 2025, was originally posted on the social media accounts of an influencer known as ‘Labour Law Advisor’ on 01 April 2025. The video was intended as an April Fools’ prank, and while sharing it, the uploader also advised his followers to remain vigilant. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Upon careful review of the video, a watermark reading “Happy April Fools Day” can be seen at the top right corner of the screen at the 0:32-second timestamp. Around the 01:17-minute mark, a document is shown in the video describing the scheme. If observed closely, the document clearly states, “Posted on April Fools Day by LLA,” further indicating that the video was intended as an April Fools’ prank.

The watermark “Labour Law Advisor” is also visible at the top left corner of the video. Upon further investigation, we found that this video was originally posted on the social media accounts (here, here, here, and here) of an influencer known as ‘Labour Law Advisor’ on 01 April 2025. The accompanying description detailed the so-called provisions of the scheme and concluded with the statement: “There’s no link, because it’s 1st April. Happy April Fools Day #JagrukJanta.” This clearly suggests that the video was a prank, and while sharing it, the uploader also encouraged viewers to stay vigilant.

We also conducted a relevant keyword search but found no official information about any such scheme. In the video, it is claimed that the ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana’ was announced by the finance minister during the 2025 Budget speech. However, upon reviewing the 2025 Budget speech and allocation details on the official Government of India website indiabudget.gov.in, no such scheme was mentioned or announced.

Additionally, on 05 April 2025, the Government of India’s PIB Fact Check unit, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), labelled an article about the “PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana” as fake. The post stated: “Claims that the Government of India is offering rewards to honest taxpayers like travel discounts, Kar Miles, and free internet data under a new scheme called ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana.’ This claim is #Fake. There is NO such scheme as PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana.”

To sum up, the Government of India has not launched any scheme named ‘PM Kardata Kalyan Yojana’ to reward taxpayers. The viral video claiming that the Indian government launched the ‘Kardata Kalyan Yojana’, effective from 01 April 2025, was intended as an April Fools’ prank.
