A video (here, here and here) is going viral on social media claiming to show police arresting Muslims in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, for throwing stones at a train. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.
Claim: The video shows Jaunpur police arresting Muslims who pelted stones at a train in Uttar Pradesh.
Fact: The video is from a July 2025 incident where some youths pelted stones at the Jaunpur–Rae Bareli Intercity Express train. Police later arrested ten accused, none of whom are Muslims. The SHO of Barsati police station in Jaunpur confirmed to Factly that there is no religious angle to the case and that all the accused are Hindus. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the truth, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to several news reports featuring the viral video (here, here and here). According to these reports, in July 2025, the Jaunpur–Rae Bareli Intercity Express was halted near Katwar Halt under the Barsathi police station limits after a chain-pulling incident, during which some youths began pelting stones at the train. The incident was reportedly connected to an earlier clash between two youths, Rohit Yadav and Saurabh Yadav, during a wedding procession in Jaunpur in May 2025. After spotting individuals involved in the previous brawl on the train, Rohit’s friends allegedly pulled the chain to stop it and attack them. When passengers protested against the unscheduled halt, the miscreants and others started pelting stones at the train, damaging windows and creating chaos, the reports added.
According to a Times of India article published on 12 July 2025, the police arrested ten individuals in connection with the case. Those arrested were identified as Rohit Yadav, Shashikant Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Ashu Yadav, Sagar Bind, Shubham Maurya, Krishna Yadav, Sanket Pal, Prince Bind, and Pawan Yadav — all residents of Jaunpur district.
To verify the names of the accused, we accessed the Jaunpur district court website for details of the case. We found that a total of ten individuals were named as accused, and their names matched those mentioned in the Times of India article. A copy of the FIR registered in this case can be accessed here.
Furthermore, to check for any religious angle in the case, we contacted the SHO of Barsati police station in Jaunpur district. He told Factly that there was no religious angle to the incident and confirmed that all the accused belong to the Hindu community.
To sum up, the accused who pelted stones at the Jaunpur–Rae Bareli Intercity Express in July 2025 are not Muslims.
