RBI Governor has not announced helpline numbers for persons who lost their mobile phone

A video is being shared on social media which has a speech by the RBI governor Shaktikanta Das. He shares helpline numbers to block digital payment apps like PhonePe, Paytm and Google pay, using which one can apparently block these apps when they lose their phone. Let’s verify this claim through this article.

Fact: The audio in this clip is from the video of a YouTuber named Mausam Nagpal. The video clip of the RBI Governor is from 2021. The video in the post is made using this video and the audio from Mausam Nagpal’s video. PIB fact check has rated this video as deceptive and clarified that the voice heard in this video does not belong to the RBI governor Shaktikanta Das. Hence the claim made in the video is FALSE.

We searched the internet  for news reports about RBI Governor making such announcement, but did not find any credible information. Searching the internet with relevant keywords led us to a Facebook video made by Mausam Nagpal, a video creator. It is titled ‘How to Block a Digital Wallet 🔥 Helpline number for PHONE PE.’ His voice and the words he speaks exactly match the audio of the viral post.

Further search led us to a video posted on the Reserve Bank of India’s YouTube channel titled ‘Address by Shri Shaktikanta Das, RBI Governor.’ The footage of this video matches the viral video, which is edited using the Governor’s video and audio of Mausam Nagpal’s video.

PIB fact-checked this video and tweeted that it is deceptive and the voice heard in the video does not belong to the RBI Governor.

To sum it up, RBI Governor has not announced any helpline numbers where people who lost their mobile phones can call and block digital payment apps.
