In the context of PM Modi’s visit to Morbi to take stock of the recent bridge collapse tragedy, a video comprising several visuals is being widely shared on social media claiming that Modi fled the site in a helicopter due to severe protests from the people.
Claim: PM Modi fled to Delhi in helicopter due to severe protests from public during his visit to Morbi.
Fact: The photo of helicopter taking off is taken in the year 2015 in Bihar during an election rally. Though there is an outrage on social media against PM Modi’s visit to Morbi, Modi did not flee the site due the protests from people. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
We ran a reverse image search of the helicopter image overlaid throughout the video and found that it is a 7-year- old photograph. According to Hindustan times, the picture shows an Indian Airforce helicopter taking off with PM Modi after he addressed an election rally in Bihar in 2015.
According to Zee News, there has been a mix of support and opposition on social media platforms for PM Modi during his visit to condole the victims of bridge collapse incident.
We also checked the footage and news updates from various media outlets during Modi’s visit, but no such incident of Modi fleeing the site due to protests was reported. He visited the site of the collapsed bridge and spoke to the victims and their family members.
To sum it up, the image of the helicopter used in the video is 7-year-old one, and PM Modi did not flee the site due to protests from people.
