Photos related to Bangladeshi films are being shared with a false ‘love jihad’ narrative

Two photos (here and here)  are being widely shared on social media with the claim that they depict a ‘love jihad’ incident. In the first image, a man and a woman can be seen posing together, while the second image allegedly shows the same woman with burn injuries on her face. The posts claim that the woman, identified as Nandini Mandal, married a man named Abdul Adil Khan in 2023, converted to Islam, and changed her name to Zara Islam. It is further claimed that the first image is from 2023 and the second shows her current condition in 2025. Let’s find the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: Two photos show a ‘love jihad’ case where a Hindu woman named Nandini Mandal married a Muslim man, converted to Islam as Zara Islam, and was later attacked, leaving her with burn injuries.

Fact: Both viral photos are unrelated to any real-life incident. The first image is a poster from the Bangladeshi movie Widow Wife, featuring actress Jouti Islam, and the second photo shows her with makeup for another film titled I Am Nusrat Chaturthi. Jouti Islam herself clarified on Instagram that the viral claim is fake. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to several (herehere and here) Instagram posts from the handle joutyislamm. The post featured the same photo seen in the viral claim and mentioned that it is from a Bengali movie titled “Widow Wife.”

Further searches using relevant keywords confirmed that “Widow Wife” is indeed a Bangladeshi film. The same image was found on the YouTube channel Choice View Media, where it appeared as a thumbnail for a video titled “Widow Wife | Bidhoba Bau | Tuhin Chowdhury | Jouti Islam | Mohin Khan | Bangla New Natok 2024.” Based on this, it is evident that the first viral image is not real but a poster from the Bangladeshi film ‘Widow Wife,’ featuring actress Jouti Islam.

Further, to verify the second photo showing burn marks on the actress’s face, we examined Jouti Islam’s social media handles. We found a video uploaded on 21 October 2025, where similar marks were visible. In the caption and comments, the actress clarified that the burns were makeup effects for a film shoot. Further checks revealed that the video was taken during the filming of “I Am Nusrat Chaturthi.” This confirms that the injuries seen in the second viral image are not real but part of a movie shoot.

Additionally, on 3 November 2025, Jouti Islam herself addressed the viral claim by sharing both viral photos on her Instagram account and stating that these social media claims are false.

To sum up, photos from Bangladeshi movies are being falsely shared on social media with a fabricated ‘love jihad’ narrative.
