Photo of a road located in Australia is falsely shared as visuals from a deep forest way in Adilabad, Telangana
A viral post (here, here, and here) on social media featuring a photo of a beautiful landscape claims to show a road located in Adilabad district, Telangana. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: This photo shows a road located in the forest region of Adilabad district, Telangana.
Fact: The road seen in this photo is located in Australia, not Adilabad, Telangana. This photo shows a road situated in Australia’s Kangaroo Island. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on the internet using the viral photo. This search led us to the same photo uploaded on several stock photo websites like Flickr, Imgur, and Shutterstock. These photos described the location as Australia, contrary to the viral claim that the road is located in Adilabad District, Telangana.
The photo on Flickr was uploaded by a Sydney-based photographer named ‘Isabelle’ on 12 June 2024. The caption of this photo reads, ‘Amazing road on Kangaroo Island on the way to Remarkable Rocks.’
Kangaroo Island is located in Australia. The Metadata on this photo shows that the photo was taken in Flinders Chase(National Park), South Australia, Australia. This makes it clear that the viral photo does not depict a road in Adilabad District, Telangana.
Further search revealed many photos of similar curved roads located in Kangaroo Island, Australia, that have been uploaded on stock photo websites by other photographers (here, here, and here). These photos are similar to the viral photo.
Furthermore, we also found a few news articles (here and here) and a Facebook post by ‘The Australian’ from 2020 that showed the effect of the forest fires that destroyed most of the trees in Kangaroo Island. According to ‘ABC,’ this road is the Cape du Couedic Road on Kangaroo Island.
A few vloggers have documented a road in the Flinders Chase National Park that looks similar to the one in the viral photo. You can see this in the YouTube videos uploaded by these vloggers here and here.
To sum up, a photo of a road in Australia is falsely shared as one from Adilabad, Telangana.
