No, this is not the 3D model of Adam, the first man, reconstructed by Princeton University

A post is being shared on social media with a picture of a man. Text in the post reads, ‘Scientists at Princeton University have reconstructed this 3D model of how Adam, the first human being created by God, might have looked.’ Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Scientists at Princeton University reconstructed a 3D model of the first man, Adam.

Fact: The image actually shows a 3D render of Vin Diesel posted by a 3D Character artist named Vitaly Tenishev 6 years ago. A theatre located in New York, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, tweeted this image, claiming it as the 3D reconstruction of the first man, Adam, reconstructed by scientists at Princeton University. This was tweeted by them as a joke, which is confirmed in their next tweet, which reads, ‘just a reminder that they were a movie theatre, not an academic journal..’. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

We performed a keyword search on the internet to know if Princeton University has published any 3D-rendered images of the first man, but we could not find any relevant information. Instead, we found a few media reports (here and here) regarding a viral tweet which contained the same information as the viral post.

According to the New York Post, ‘Indie movie-theatre chain Alamo Drafthouse, NYC, tweeted that “Scientists at Princeton University have reconstructed this 3D model of how Adam, the first human being created by God, might have looked.” The tweet can be seen here. Later Alamo Drafthouse made another tweet in which they mentioned that they are not an academic journal.

A joke/meme tweet is falsely being shared as a real 3D render of Adam in the viral post. Upon further searching, we found that this 3D render of Vin Diesel was posted 6 years ago on artstation.com by a 3D Character artist named Vitaly Tenishev.

To sum it up, the image in the viral post is not the 3D render of Adam, the first man. This picture is posted on Twitter as a joke by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a theatre in New York.
