No scientific evidence to prove that intake of raw onions with rock salt can cure the COVID-19 virus

A message is being circulated on social media claiming that consuming raw onions with rock salt can cure the COVID-19 virus. This post claims that a person consuming this mixture would get COVID-19 test negative in 15 minutes.  Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Consuming raw unions with rock salt can cure the Covid-19 virus.

Fact:  World Health Organization (WHO) has not approved any such home remedy to cure the COVID-19 virus. There is also no scientific evidence to prove that the intake of raw onions with rock salt could cure the COVID-19 virus.  The Government of India and PIB called this homemade remedy a myth. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched to check if any such home remedy could cure the COVID-19 virus, we found several news websites publishing articles about this message circulating on social media. They can be seen here and here. These articles reported that there is no authentic information to prove that the intake of raw onions with rock salt can cure the COVID-19 virus in the body.

Press Information Bureau (PIB) through a tweet, clarified that there is no scientific evidence that proves consuming onions with rock salt can cure the COVID-19 virus. ‘MyGov Corona Hub’ called this home remedy a myth on their Facebook page.

In our further research, we found out that the World Health Organization (WHO) has not approved any such home remedy to cure the COVID-19 virus. WHO did not mention such a diet in the ‘Healthy Diet’ section on their website.

To sum it up, there is no scientific evidence to prove that intake of raw onions with rock salt can cure the COVID-19 virus.
