A social media post (here, here, and here) claims that “MS Dhoni joins BJP” and shares an image showing features of both MS Dhoni and PM Modi, wearing saffron scarves with the BJP symbol, standing in front of a saffron banner that reads ‘Bharatiya Janata Party.’ Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.
Claim: The photo shows MS Dhoni with PM Modi after he joined the BJP.
Fact: The image is AI-generated and originates from a satire post by The Tathya News. There are no credible reports confirming that MS Dhoni joined the BJP. The Instagram post that featured the image explicitly stated that it was satire and meant for entertainment purposes only. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
We searched the internet using relevant keywords but found no credible reports confirming that MS Dhoni joined the BJP. An incident of this significance would have attracted substantial media coverage, yet no such reports were found.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led to an Instagram post by The Tathya News featuring the same image, shared on 01 April 2025. The image included text claiming that MS Dhoni had retired mid-season from the IPL to join the BJP and could be India’s next Prime Minister. However, the post’s description clarified that it was not real news, stating that it was purely satire and meant for entertainment purposes only. Additionally, a watermark was visible in the top left corner of the image.
Upon reviewing The Tathya News Instagram handle, we found that its bio stated it is owned by Kiran Kumar and features satire and parody posts.
Further, we used the Hive AI image detection tool, which determined with 97.7% confidence that the image was generated using artificial intelligence.
We used another tool Decopy.ai , which indicated with 94.11% confidence that the image was AI-generated.
To sum up, MS Dhoni did not join the BJP; the viral image is AI-generated.
