India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following Operation Sindoor on 10 May 2025 (here, here and here). India later accused Pakistan of violating the agreement, leading to a strong military response. The next day, Indian armed forces presented evidence of targeted airstrikes on terror camps and Pakistani military sites. Amid these tensions, a few videos (here, here, here and here) went viral on social media claiming that commandos had shot dead one terrorist and captured another at Powai in Mumbai. Let’s verify the truth behind this video.
Claim: The viral videos show commandos shooting dead one terrorist and capturing another at Powai in Mumbai.
Fact: The video is actually from a mock drill conducted by Mumbai Police at Chandivali on 13 May 2025. It is unrelated to any real terrorist incident. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the truth, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video on a YouTube channel named The Perfect Voice. The same video was uploaded there on May 14 with the caption: “Mock Drill Conducted at Chandivali – No need to panic as confirmed by the Sakinaka Police.”
Using the clue from the YouTube post, we accessed the X page of the Sakinaka Police and found a related update. On May 13, they posted in Hindi confirming that a mock drill was conducted around 12:00 noon at Nahar Amrit Shakti, D Mart, Chandivali, within the jurisdiction of Sakinaka Police Station, Mumbai (PIN 400072). The post further explained that the drill was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sakinaka Division, Pradeep Mairale. It also involved Senior Inspector of Police PSI Kundalkar and seven commandos from the West QRT Battalion, along with PSI Masal and five commandos from the Main QRT Battalion.
We did a side-by-side comparison to verify the viral video location and the mock drill site using the street view of D Mart, Nahar Amrit Shakti, where the drill was conducted. The steps, trees, and other elements in the viral video match the mock drill location.
We also found a few local news reports confirming that the viral video (here and here), which caused panic in parts of Mumbai, is actually from a mock drill. These reports clarify that the video is not related to any terrorist activity, but was part of a planned security exercise.
To sum up, a mock drill video is being falsely shared as real footage of police shooting a terrorist in Mumbai.
