A post accompanying a screenshot of Rahul Gandhi’s tweet about Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra is being shared on social media. The text in the tweet loosely translates to ‘Is it fair that he is standing second in line on the podium despite him winning the first place’. Through this article, let’s fact-check if Rahul Gandhi has made any such tweet as claimed in the post.

An archived version of the post can be seen here.

Claim: Rahul Gandhi’s tweet about Neeraj Chopra standing second in line on the podium.

Fact: Rahul Gandhi did not make any such tweet. The purported tweet shows the date of tweet as 05 August 2021, whereas Neeraj Chopra won the medal on 07 August 2021. Another tweet of Rahul Gandhi congratulating Olympic medalist Ravi Dahiya at 4:51 pm on 05 August 2021 is digitally morphed so as to look like the purported tweet. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

There is no such tweet as claimed in the post on the timeline of Rahul Gandhi’s official Twitter account. While Neeraj Chopra won the medal on 07 August 2021, the purported image shows the date of the tweet as 05 August 2021 which proves that the image of the viral tweet is actually digitally created.

Further, the purported image shows that Rahul Gandhi made this tweet at 16:51 hours on 05 August 2021. However, exactly at the same time and on the same day, Rahul Gandhi tweeted congratulating another Olympic medalist Ravi Dahiya. Very likely, the image of this tweet of Rahul Gandhi is digitally morphed so as to look like the purported tweet in the post.

Further, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Neeraj Chopra through a Facebook post on 07 August 2021. However, there is no such tweet congratulating Neeraj Chopra on Rahul Gandhi’s official Twitter timeline.

To sum it up, the image of a purported tweet of Rahul Gandhi about Neeraj Chopra is actually a morphed one.
