An old video of a pro-Palestine rally from Manchester is being shared as visuals of a rally supporting the Sydney terrorist attack

The antisemitic terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on 14 December saw a father and son, Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram, open fire during a Hanukkah celebration, killing 16 people, including one gunman, and injuring dozens. Police shot Sajid Akram at the scene, while Naveed Akram remains in critical but stable condition under guard and is expected to face charges if he survives. Authorities have designated the incident as an Islamic State-linked terrorist attack, with reports of an ISIS flag and an improvised explosive device recovered during the investigation (herehere, and here).

In this context, a video (here, here, here and here) of a Palestine-support rally is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows a pro-Palestine rally in the UK supporting the Sydney attack. Let’s examine the truth behind this video.

Claim: The viral video shows a pro-Palestine rally in the UK supporting the Sydney terrorist attack.

Fact: The video is from a pro-Palestine rally held in Manchester months before the Sydney attack, hence the claim is MISLEADING.

To verify the claim, we conducted a reverse image search, which led us to the same video posted on 09 June 2025 in an X thread stating that the incident took place in Manchester, several months before the Sydney attack. We also found multiple videos from the same event shared on the same account, confirming that the footage is unrelated to the Sydney incident.

Further, using the available information, we conducted a keyword search on Google, which led us to a video posted by Middle East Monitor on Facebook on 10 June 2025. The video closely matches the viral clip and shows several people holding Palestinian flags and chanting slogans. According to the caption, the footage is from Piccadilly Railway Station in Manchester, UK.

Additionally, we found similar videos, including a full video on YouTube (here, here and here), showing the same crowd and banners as seen in the viral clip, further confirming that the footage predates the Sydney attack. A keyword search also found no credible reports of any such incident occurring in the UK after the Sydney attack, reinforcing that the viral video is unrelated.

To sum up, an old video of a pro-Palestine rally from Manchester is being shared as visuals of a rally supporting the Sydney terrorist attack.
