A video of a policeman thrashing an elderly man on a railway platform has recently gone viral across social media platforms. It is being claimed that this incident happened in Uttar Pradesh recently. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: This video shows a recent incident of a policeman in Uttar Pradesh thrashing an elderly man on a railway platform.

Fact: This is an old video from July 2022. This incident happened in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur railway station. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet, which led us to multiple news reports (here, here, and here) from 2022 related to the viral video. 

As per the news reports, this incident took place in Madhya Pradesh, not Uttar Pradesh. In July 2022, India Today reported that an elderly man was beaten by a police constable named Anant Mishra in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur Railway station (platform number 4&5) for misbehaving with him and the public. Reportedly, the old man was in an inebriated state. 

The policeman was later suspended, and an inquiry was initiated against him. Police identified the victim as Gopal Prasad. 

To sum up, an old video from 2022 filmed in Madhya Pradesh is falsely being shared as a recent incident from Uttar Pradesh.
