Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India defeated South Africa in the final on 02 November 2025 to win their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title. The historic win capped off an impressive campaign for India and marked a major milestone in the history of women’s cricket in the country.
In this context, a video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) with the claim that it shows celebrations in Mumbai following India’s 2025 Women’s World Cup victory. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
Claim: The video shows celebrations in Mumbai following India’s 2025 Women’s World Cup victory on 02 November 2025.
Fact: The video predates India’s Women’s World Cup victory on 02 November 2025. It has been online since at least 30 June 2024. The visuals were shot near Shivaji Chowk, Kavlapur, Kolhapur in Maharashtra, not in Mumbai. Following India’s Women’s World Cup victory on 02 November 2025, several celebration videos were shared online from across the country, and news outlets reported nationwide excitement. However, the video in question is unrelated to the November 2025 Women’s World Cup win. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video, which led us to multiple social media posts featuring the same video (here, here) (archived) dated 30 June 2024. These posts claimed that the visuals show people celebrating India’s victory against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final held on 29 June 2024. This confirms that the video predates India’s Women’s World Cup victory on 02 November 2025.
Upon closer observation, we spotted ‘Malkar Sweet Shop’ in Marathi in the video. Using this, we geolocated the spot to Bhausingji Road near Shivaji Chowk, Kavlapur, Kolhapur. The location in the video matches the view on Google Maps Street View. The comparison can be seen below.
However, we could not independently verify the exact date when this video was recorded, but based on the available evidence, it is clear that it predates India’s Women’s World Cup victory on 02 November 2025.
Factly had previously debunked the same video when it went viral with the claim that it showed RCB fans celebrating their 2025 IPL victory on the streets of Bengaluru.
Following India’s 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory on 2 November 2025, videos of fans celebrating were widely shared on social media from different parts of the country (here, here). Several news outlets reported nationwide excitement, with congratulatory messages pouring in online for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side.
To sum up, an old video from Kolhapur is falsely shared as celebrations in Mumbai after India’s 2025 Women’s World Cup victory.
