A controversy has emerged over the proposed installation of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on the Madhya Pradesh High Court campus. The issue escalated after a video of Anil Mishra, a High Court advocate and former Bar Association president, surfaced, allegedly showing him insulting Dr. Ambedkar. FIRs were filed against him in Gwalior and Maharashtra. Several political and social organisations, including the Bhim Army, protested, but after discussions with the administration, they postponed their planned protest on 15 October 2025. While groups like the Bhim Army, the OBC Mahasabha, and some lawyers are demanding the installation of the statue, a section of Brahmin lawyers has opposed it. In response to the rising tensions, the district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the city.

Amid this, a video showing policemen taking a man away is going viral on social media (here, here, and here), with posts claiming that it shows the arrest of Advocate Anil Mishra. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows Advocate Anil Mishra being arrested by the police for making remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Fact: The video is unrelated to Advocate Anil Mishra and does not show his arrest. It is from June 2025 and depicts the detention of senior advocate Amber Imam Hashmi in Darbhanga, Bihar, following a court order in a perjury case. City Superintendent of Police, Gwalior, clarified that Advocate Anil Mishra has not been arrested, as the FIRs filed against him fall under non-cognisable sections where arrest is not applicable. He is currently at his residence in Gwalior, and the authorities also confirmed that the video circulating on social media is fake. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to several social media posts (here, here, and here) from June 2025 featuring the same footage, confirming that the video is unrelated to the October 2025 controversy involving Advocate Anil Mishra. These posts claimed that the video shows the detention of well-known advocate Amber Imam Hashmi in Darbhanga, Bihar.

Further investigation using relevant keywords on Google led us to multiple media reports from June 2025 related to this incident (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the incident took place on 20 June 2025, when Amber Imam Hashmi, a senior advocate from Darbhanga, Bihar, was taken into custody by police at the Darbhanga Civil Court. The detention followed an order from ADJ-3 Suman Kumar in a case of perjury connected to a 32-year-old murder case. Hashmi had submitted Form 317 seeking exemption from appearing in court, but later arrived to present a petition, which prompted the court to order his detention.

Upon reviewing the latest news reports related to the Anil Mishra controversy, we found that several FIRs have been filed against Anil Mishra, and copies of these FIRs were also shared on his X handle (here, here, and here). However, we did not come across any credible news sources supporting the claim that he was taken into custody.

To verify the matter, we contacted Hina Khan, City Superintendent of Police, Gwalior, who confirmed to Factly that Advocate Anil Mishra has not been arrested and is currently at his residence in Gwalior. She stated that the FIRs filed against him fall under non-cognisable sections, for which arrest is not required. We also shared the viral video with her, and she called it fake.

To sum up, an old, unrelated video from Bihar is shared as visuals of Advocate Anil Mishra’s arrest over remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
