Claim: This video shows a recent incident of a few Muslim men thrashing traffic police officers in Udaipur, Rajasthan for issuing a challan.

Fact: This video is from 2015 and shows an incident that occurred in Delhi, not Udaipur. A person named Shahnawaz and his family members beat up two traffic police officers in Delhi’s Gokulpuri after the traffic police issued challans for not wearing a helmet. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on a few keyframes from the viral video. This search led us to a 2015 news report about the incident seen in the viral video. This video was shared on the official YouTube channel of ABP NEWS on 13 July 2015.

According to this video report, the incident took place in North-East Delhi’s Gokulpuri, where a person named Shahnawaz, along with his brother and father, Sagir Ahmed, beat up the traffic police after the traffic police issued challans for not wearing a helmet and not obeying traffic rules. A further search led us to more news reports (here, here, and here) published by various media outlets in 2015 reporting this incident.

According to these reports, on 13 July 2015, traffic cops Sanjay Bhagwan and Manoj stopped and issued a challan to Shahnawaz (25) and his younger brother Amir (18) for riding a bike without a helmet and jumping a traffic signal near Wazirabad Road in Gokulpuri, Northeast Delhi.

But Shahnawaz and Amir refused to pay and got into an argument with the police. During this time, they abused and threatened the cops and left without paying the challan. But shortly after, Shahnawaz and his younger brother returned to the scene along with their father, Sagir Ahmed, and around a dozen others and attacked constables Sanjay and Manoj.

To sum up, a 2015 video of a few men attacking the Delhi traffic police is being falsely shared as a recent incident that occurred in Udaipur.
