A viral photo (here, here, here, and here) on social media features two autorickshaws containing a text painted on the back cover in Hindi that translates to ‘We will oust Kejriwal from Delhi.” This was allegedly captured in Delhi and is being shared in the context of the upcoming 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, referring to Arvind Kejriwal. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: This photo shows two autos in Delhi displaying a quote that says, “We will oust Kejriwal from Delhi.”
Fact: This is a digitally edited photo. The original photo was captured way back in 2013, and the text on the original auto in Hindi translates to “Ayush Gupta, Akanksha..When will you come home.” Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on the internet. This search led us to the original version of this photo that contained a different text on one auto, contradicting the viral claim. The one on the left side did not even have a quote on its back cover. The title of this photo reads ‘Auto-rickshaw in Delhi.’
We found this image on the Wiki-Commons website, a web repository containing free-to-use, non-copyrighted media content. As per the metadata on this photo, it was captured in April 2013, almost 11 years ago. The text on the auto has no mention of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. The text on the auto in the original photo translates to “Ayush Gupta, Akanksha…When will you come home.”
This makes it clear that this photo was digitally manipulated to make it look like a recent photo taken on the streets of Delhi, showing autos displaying text seemingly declaring that Kejriwal will be ousted from Delhi. Further, we also learned that the same photo has been edited in the past by Fevicol to use it for advertising purposes. You can find this on Fevicol’s social media and their website.
To sum up, a digitally altered photo is being shared with a claim that it shows visuals of Delhi auto drivers displaying a text declaring they would oust Kejriwal from Delhi.
