An AI-generated flower image is being shared as Turkey’s unique Yogi Flower that appears black in summer

A viral image on social media (here, here, and here) allegedly shows flowers naturally grown in the shape of Padmasana in Turkey. The post claims that these rare “Yogi Flowers” grow only in Halfeti village, near Urfa province, fed by the Euphrates. Due to the soil’s unique properties and anthocyanin pigments, which are sensitive to pH levels, these flowers purportedly appear black in summer and dark red in other seasons. Let’s verify the claim through this article.

Claim:  The image shows natural Yogi flowers found in Turkey that change its colour with the seasons.

Fact: The viral image is AI-generated and there is no flower with the name ‘Yogi Flower’ that is grown in Turkey. In Turkey’s Halfeti, roses known as “kara gül,” bloom in deep wine-red and appear black as buds in summer. They require specific pH levels and turn black in summer, changing shades in other seasons. Locals cultivate and sell these roses to tourists, making Halfeti a bustling hub each spring. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

We suspected the image to be AI-generated and ran it through a Hive AI detector, which indicated that it is 99.9% likely to be AI-generated.

To further verify, we used another tool, Hugging Face, which also indicated that the image was created with the help of artificial intelligence. According to this tool, 87% of the image’s content was generated using AI.

Further, we found no evidence to confirm that a flower by the name ‘Yogi Flower’ blooms in Turkey’s Halfeti. However, a Google search (here, here, and here) revealed that Halfeti’s roses bloom in deep wine-colored red but appear black as buds. Known as kara gül in Turkish, these roses are unique to the town and have gained a mythical reputation in the last decade. The flowers require specific pH levels and turn black as summer progresses. Locals cultivate and sell them to tourists, transforming Halfeti into a bustling hub each spring.

There is no evidence of flowers grown in the shape of Padmasana in Turkey known as ‘Yogi Flowers’.

To sum up, an AI-generated flower image is being shared as Turkey’s unique ‘Yogi Flowers’.
