A social media post claiming that Akhilesh Yadav made a statement that Yogi government will be formed in the state is being widely shared. The post accompanies a video of Akhilesh Yadav speaking in a public meeting to substantiate the claim. Through this article, let’s fact-check the authenticity of the video shared in the post.
Claim: Video of Akhilesh Yadav saying Yogi government will be formed in the state.
Fact: In the viral speech, Akhilesh Yadav calls for Yogya (competent) sarkar and not Yogi Sarkar. He has been using the line ‘yogya sarkar’ in UP (not Yogi Sarkar) in his speeches for quite some time. This call for Yogya Sarkar is misconstrued as Yogi Sarkar. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
At the top right corner of the viral video, we can spot ‘Headlines India’ logo. Taking a cue from this, internet search with relevant keywords led us to the full-length video on Headlines India Facebook page from which the viral clip is extracted. This full-length video was shared on 02 January 2022.
55 seconds into the video, we can hear Akhilesh Yadav saying exactly the same words as in the viral video. Akhilesh Yadav’s words in Hindi, which loosely translates ‘I would like to request you, if Uttar Pradesh is to be taken on a prosperous/happy path, a competent (yogya) government is to be formed, only then will Uttar Pradesh go on the path of prosperity.’
From this video, it is clearly evident that the Hindi word योग्य/yogya in Akhilesh’s speech is misconstrued as Yogi/योगी and being shared as Akhilesh wishing the formation of Yogi Adityanath government in the state since Yogi Adityanath is also known as Yogi.
Moreover, this is not the first time Akhilesh used the word ‘yogya sarkar/gov’. He has been using this as a wordplay in his political rallies for quite some time. A few examples where Akhilesh called for a yogya Sarkar and not Yogi sarkar in the state can be viewed here, here, and here.
Even in the Gorakhpur Vijay Yatra speech, Akhilesh Yadav called for yogya Sarkar and not Yogi sarkar in the state. From all these, it is clearly evident that Akhilesh Yadav’s speech is misconstrued and a false message is being shared.
To sum it up, Akhilesh’s call for Yogya sarkar in the state is misconstrued as Yogi sarkar.
