A video being shared on social media (here, here, and here) shows two individuals being beaten while they are hung upside down. The post claims that they are Hindus who were assaulted after being stripped in Bangladesh on 25 February 2025. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.
Claim: Video shows two Hindus beaten and hung upside down in Bangladesh on 25 February 2025.
Fact: The incident took place on 25 February 2025 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The video actually shows a mob mistaking two men for robbers and assaulting them. They were hung upside down on a foot overbridge and beaten. Police later rescued them and admitted them to the hospital. The victims were identified as Mohammad Nazim and Mohammad Bakul. There is no communal angle to it. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we conducted a Google Lens search of a screenshot from the viral video. This led us to a The Business Standard article (archived) dated 25 February 2025 featuring a screenshot of the viral video. According to the report, a mob on 25 February 2025 in Dhaka mistook two men for robbers and beat them up. They were hung upside down on a foot overbridge and assaulted. North East Police Station in-charge Shamim Ahmed stated that some people allegedly caught them red-handed.
We used relevant Bangla keywords and found Bangladeshi media reports (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the police rescued the injured men and initially admitted them to Bangladesh Kuwait-Friendship Hospital, where their condition was reported as critical. Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. The victims were identified as 35-year-old Mohammad Nazim and 40-year-old Mohammad Bakul.
To sum up, the viral video does not show a communal attack but shows a mob in Dhaka assaulting two men suspected to be robbers.
