A video (here, here, and here) allegedly showing girl students of a madrasa in Bangladesh beating up their teacher after failing in their exams is doing the rounds on social media. In this video, we can see burqa-clad women beating a few men. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Video of girl students of a madarsa in Bangladesh beating their teacher after failing in exams.
Fact: The video shows an incident that took place in the Cambrian High School, a private educational institution located in Chakaria municipality, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. According to Bangladeshi news reports, the principal of this school, Jahirul Islam, misbehaved with a 10th-grade female student inside a classroom. This led to protests from the students and teachers who accused Jahirul Islam and Yunus, the teachers’ representative of the school, of molesting students. The video was reportedly filmed in this context and shows parents of the school children and the general public attacking teachers inside the school. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim, we performed a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video and found the original video uploaded by the Cumilla News on Facebook. They posted this video on 10 July 2025 with a caption in Bangla that translates to ‘Attack on Yunus, a teacher at Cambrian High School in Chakaria.’
Taking this as a hint, we then performed a keyword search on the internet and found several Bangladeshi news reports (here, here, and here) related to this incident. As per these news reports, the principal of Chakaria Cambrian High School, located in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar, Jahirul Islam, and the teacher’s representative, Yunus, have been accused of molesting students.
As per a news report by Dainik Shiksha published on 12 July 2025, ‘The victims alleged that on 8 July 2025, under the pretext of not going to coaching, the school principal entered a classroom, asked a 10th grade student if she had any money in her pocket, put his hand in the pocket of her school uniform, touched her sensitive area, and teased her.’ He reportedly denied allegations and blamed a group of teachers for turning the students against him. News reports state that the school students have filed a complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) regarding this matter.
In this regard, students and parents staged a protest on 10 July 2025 by forming a human chain and blocking a road in front of the school. During this protest, the accused principal, Jahirul Islam, called the parents to the school office through the teacher representative, Yunus, to resolve the issue and reportedly harassed and insulted them. This is when the parents and the general public attacked them.
Nowhere in the news reports related to this incident was it mentioned that the issue was about girls’ failing in exams. It was an incident related to protests against Jahirul Islam, the principal, accused of misbehaving with and touching a school girl inappropriately.
Also, the reports have mentioned that the school is a private institution and not a madarsa. Further, we geolocated the school on Google Maps and found that it is indeed located in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.
The school building matches the building seen in a YouTube video showing the protest. Also, the school board does not say that it is a madarsa. Even on their official Facebook page and school website, it is not mentioned that the school is a madarsa.
After the incident, Chakaria Cambrian High School uploaded a few videos (here and here) of teacher representative Yunus (he can be seen in the viral video) and the school president speaking to the media.
Furthermore, we ran these videos through Google’s Notebook LLM and obtained the transcript. After going through its English translation, we understood that they were talking about the accusation against the principal, Jahirul Islam, and not about female students failing in exams.
In a Facebook post made by the school on 15 July 2025, it was stated that a committee would investigate the incident. Additionally, we also performed a keyword search to check if any such incidents as alleged in the viral post took place recently. This search did not yield any credible reports validating this claim.
We, however, could not independently verify whether the girl students in this school have failed in the exams, but the above evidence makes it clear that the video shows a different incident as opposed to the viral claim.
To sum up, a video of an attack on a teacher accused of sexual harassment in Bangladesh is being shared as visuals of a Madrasa girls beating their teacher after failing exams.
