A video going viral on social media (here, here, and here) shows an elderly man running on a road while another man chases and attacks him with a sharp weapon. After the attack, the assailant flees the scene on a bicycle. The video is being shared with claims that the incident occurred in India, prompting many to demand action. Some users have claimed that the video is from Uttarakhand. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

Claim: The video shows a man being attacked with a sharp weapon in India, after which the attacker flees the scene on a bicycle.

Fact: The incident shown in the video took place on 06 May 2025 in Campo Alegre, a city in the Alagoas state of Brazil. A 59-year-old man named Sebastião Fabiano da Silva was attacked and killed by three individuals due to a family dispute. This incident has no connection to India. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.


A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to a Reddit post, where a screenshot from the video was shared. In the post, the video is claimed to be from a city in Brazil.

Taking cues from the Reddit post, we used relevant keywords and found the same video featured in multiple news reports dated 08 May 2025 (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the incident took place on 6 May 2025 in Campo Alegre, a city in the Alagoas state of Brazil. The reports state that a 59-year-old man named Sebastião Fabiano da Silva was attacked by three individuals, two of whom were armed with sharp weapons. The attackers reportedly stabbed the elderly man more than 15 times, resulting in his death. Citing police sources, the reports mention that the incident stemmed from a family dispute, and the victim’s family had been receiving threats for some time. Three suspects have been identified, and one of them, a minor, has been arrested by the police.
