A video from 2021 is falsely shared as a recent video of farmers vandalising the stage of Haryana CM’s public meeting

Recently, a video (here, here, and here) has gone viral on social media that features a group of farmers, vandalising a stage allegedly set for a meeting held by the Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Video of farmers vandalising a public meeting stage of CM Nayab Singh Saini in Haryana during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Fact: This is an old video from January 2021, when a mob of protesting farmers ransacked a venue of the then CM of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar’s ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat in Karnal, Haryana. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we first searched the internet with relevant keywords to find if any media organizations have reported the occurrence of the alleged incident where farmers vandalised a stage of the Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. This search yielded no credible news reports from the recent past.

We then performed a reverse image search on a few keyframes of the viral video to find more details about this video. This search led us to a longer version (archive link) of the viral video from January 2021, which shows a news report published by ‘Punjab Kesari Haryana.’ You can see the visuals from the viral video from the 1:45 mark of the news report. 

Reportedly, back in January 2021, farmers in Haryana protesting against the center’s agricultural reform laws vandalised a venue of the Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s  ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat.’

To sum up, a video of a vandalism incident in Haryana from 2021 is now shared as a recent 2024 incident where farmers ransacked a public meeting stage of Haryana CM Nayab Singh Siani.
